(Week 16) Day 108/366 - Pride - I'm proud of my 70 lb. weight lossImage by size8jeans via Flickr

Can you Imagine weight loss without having to cut back on your food intake…..Well, it could be a reality if you believe this claim made by Australian Scientists today.

“Researchers in Melbourne found that by manipulating fat cells in mice they were able to speed up metabolism.”

Scientists believe that their new research could help in the development of a “Weight Loss” pill.

From a personal Point of view I’m not sure whether I like the psychology behind the weight loss pill. Even the doctors involved in this research conceded that throughout their studies they haven’t any evidence that says a pill can or could replace a well balanced diet and exercise for weight loss. Strength Training: Increase your Metabolic Rate

April 29, 2008 by Kel · 1 Comment

Strength Training

Recent research by a Duke University medical researcher in the US has uncovered that many of us like to pig out after we exercise, often consuming the same amount of kilojoules we just burnt….isn’t that a little counter productive?

Don’t worry, we’re all guilty of it.

Also alarming was that we didn’t exactly feel like doing much after we exercised, with many of us crashing in front of the TV…..and we all know that TV = chocolate ice-cream.

While it has never been more important to have a healthy diet to accompany an exercise program (This article highlights the importance of a healthy diet and exercise) perhaps a more efficient way to burn kilojoules is through “Strength Training”

Roller Skates are back

rollerskating

Roller Skating is trendy again…cool!!

Over the last 12 months search engine activity for roller skating has caught up to and over taken its younger brother “roller blading”: which suggests that the skating trend that began in the 70’s is back in a big way.

Roller skating from a fitness point of view is an awesome activity…your calves will love you for purchasing a pair and climbing the hills around your neighborhood. Using the toe brake will give you a nice little workout (Especially the meaty area of your calf called the Gastrocnemius…burn baby burn!!).

The more you skate the more fat you’ll burn. Roller skating is fun and back in style

How many Calories do you burn during sex?

calories burned during sex
Written by Robert S. Wieder and found at calorielab, this is one of the funniest things relating to health & fitness I’ve read online for awhile….“Calories Burned during sex”

A particular favorite of mine is the “Extra Emotional Calories” you burn from sex that leaves you feeling…well…dirty ( 17 calories) , Guilty ( 12 calories) or Disorientated (20 calories..LOL)

If you have a spare few minutes do yourself a favor and read Roberts research……after all…laughter can burn calories too.

Longevity and Quality of Life

stress release

In November 2006 I was fortunate enough to be able to attend a lecture called “The Secrets of Longevity and Quality of Life” given by Paul Taylor who is an Accredited Exercise Physiologist and practicing Nutritionist. (Paul has a Masters Degree in both fields plus he is a part-time University Lecturer in Exercise Science and frequent corporate speaker.) Paul is also the Director of the Melbourne-based, PT Academy, which provides Personal Training Courses and Certification. He has kindly given me permission to share with you, what I learned from that lecture…

As I mentioned, Paul’s lecture was about “The Secrets of Longevity and Quality of Life”. The lecture covered longevity theories, mechanisms of aging, chronic disease, the impact of exercise on chronic disease, muscle wasting with age, the best forms of exercise, the impact of stress on aging, importance of sleep and the role of nutrition and calorie restriction. I have summarized the key points from this lecture below…

Weight Watchers Recipes

Nutrition is just as important as exercise when it comes to weight loss…in fact, it’s probably more important….but more on that later this week.

One of the hardest things we find as a family at meal time, is coming up with a delicious meal that won’t ruin our daily calorie intake, a meal that is quick and easy to prepare….and further more, looks appetizing.

Earlier today I came across Gina’s blog…filled with loads of Weight Watchers recipes….points and all.

Gina has put together an excellent collection of low calorie meals and snacks that should help solve your daily “What to eat” dilemmas.

There’s the Weight Watchers Chicken Milanese with Arugula Salad and Tomatoes or the Juicy Grilled Chicken Spinach Salad with Balsamic Vinaigrette & my personal favorite “Spanish Chicken & Rice” …I’m a sucker for a rice dish…espiecially when it’s spicy…this one is worth all 5 points.

Mommy Needs a Tummy Tuck

Every now and then you come across something that makes you go…WTF…..and this news article certainly did that when we stumbled across it today.

A Florida plastic surgeon has written the first known picture book aimed at 4-7 year-olds that seeks to reassure them about mom going under the knife.

Yikes….I had no idea this was a problem that needed addressing…..maybe it does?

Nutritional Snacks: 5 Bite size treats

Nutritional Snack

Did you know that by just moving your jaw up & down you can burn up to 46kj per hour?

Of course it goes without saying that if you’re moving your jaw up and down on a greasy old hamburger the energy you burn making that chewing motion will be undone by the excess calories you consume….a shame I know…but life isn’t always fair.

So the next time you’re feeling hungry, why not try reaching for some sugar free chewing gum before you raid the vending machine for that horrible sugary snack……remember “chew chew chew….and you’ll burn loads of kilojoules, joules, joules”
