So this must go down as the “wackiest weight loss” story of the year.
Broderick Lloyd Laswell, an inmate at the Benton County jail , has filed a lawsuit against the jail because he’s lost nearly 100 pounds while he’s been awaiting trial for murder.
Broderick entered the prison at a whopping 408 pounds…..This gentle giant who allegedly fatally beat and stabbed a man, is complaining that the menu just isn’t up to scratch….providing only 3000 calories a day.
“I could still eat a horse and chase the jockey” is the nightly call from the prison dining hall….But Why is he complaining?
100 pounds off his frame is just what he needs….it’s better for his health and possibly his jail love life…especially if he’s going to spend the rest of it inside. Read more
Snack attack of the impulse kind

While from a marketing point of view I applaud Supermarkets, Petrol stations and 7/11’s for their strategic placement of sweet snacks right next to the checkout, from a health & fitness perspective it’s “Temptation Island” baby.
Liz is still working on my spending at Petrol stations…I’m forever picking up a bottle of coke zero and chewing gum…(ok, and the odd chocolate bar) Read more
3′o’clock coffee break

Got the 3 o’clock yawns?
Try reaching for a coffee instead of an energy drink…
But hang on a minute Kel - didn’t you say caffeine can kill you? One cup won’t and it’s loaded with with antioxidants. Another plus is it has fewer kilojoules than energy drinks…provided of course you go sugar free.
Red bull may give you wings…but they’ll be no use to you if you’re to heavy to get off the ground…ever seen a seagull take off after it’s scoffed down a half a dozen chips? It ain’t pretty.
Back to the 3 o’clock coffee break - The NSW institute of sport recently found caffeine actually helped boost your athletic performance….This will come in handy if your boss asks you to get down to the bank 5 minutes before it shuts.
But on the other hand - if your boss invites you into his office to help him complete the last 3 lines of his cross word puzzle…you might want to swap the coffee for tea…latest research shows that amino acids in tea can make you sharper upstairs than your latte sipping work mates.
Now - I’m off for a coffee…chiao
Today’s sugar rush
I did something good today…I played guitar and sang at my grandmothers nursing home for their “Mothers Day Lunch”.
Apart from the 3 or 4 oldies that fell asleep half way through the show, I think everyone enjoyed the music…they must’ve, because they rewarded me with a nice big box of chocolates.
The chocolates didn’t even make the trip home….sigh
Switching on my computer tonight and skimming through my RSS feeds, a post from the Fit Shack caught my eye….It shouted “Kel..you better read this one after today’s sugar rush!”

Lose weight without dieting?
Image by size8jeans via FlickrCan you Imagine weight loss without having to cut back on your food intake…..Well, it could be a reality if you believe this claim made by Australian Scientists today.
“Researchers in Melbourne found that by manipulating fat cells in mice they were able to speed up metabolism.”
Scientists believe that their new research could help in the development of a “Weight Loss” pill.
From a personal Point of view I’m not sure whether I like the psychology behind the weight loss pill. Even the doctors involved in this research conceded that throughout their studies they haven’t any evidence that says a pill can or could replace a well balanced diet and exercise for weight loss. Strength Training: Increase your Metabolic Rate

Recent research by a Duke University medical researcher in the US has uncovered that many of us like to pig out after we exercise, often consuming the same amount of kilojoules we just burnt….isn’t that a little counter productive?
Don’t worry, we’re all guilty of it.
Also alarming was that we didn’t exactly feel like doing much after we exercised, with many of us crashing in front of the TV…..and we all know that TV = chocolate ice-cream.
While it has never been more important to have a healthy diet to accompany an exercise program (This article highlights the importance of a healthy diet and exercise) perhaps a more efficient way to burn kilojoules is through “Strength Training”
How many Calories do you burn during sex?

Written by Robert S. Wieder and found at calorielab, this is one of the funniest things relating to health & fitness I’ve read online for awhile….“Calories Burned during sex”
A particular favorite of mine is the “Extra Emotional Calories” you burn from sex that leaves you feeling…well…dirty ( 17 calories) , Guilty ( 12 calories) or Disorientated (20 calories..LOL)
If you have a spare few minutes do yourself a favor and read Roberts research……after all…laughter can burn calories too.

Nutritionist say we should be consuming 5-8 serves (1 serve = 1 cup) of vegetables and 2 pieces of fruit a day, Read more
Mum’s &Tummy Tucks:How to tell the Kids

Every now and then you come across something that makes you go…WTF…..and this news article certainly did that when we stumbled across it today.
A Florida plastic surgeon has written the first known picture book aimed at 4-7 year-olds that seeks to reassure them about mom going under the knife.
Yikes….I had no idea this was a problem that needed addressing…..maybe it does?
Thoughts anyone?
