I’ve been meaning to blog about this since I saw Nintendo’s new “Wii Fit” advertised on a billboard a few weeks ago.
If you haven’t heard about Wii Fit, it’s essentially a video game that incorporates exercise in four major categories:
- Aerobic exercise
- Muscle Conditioning
- Yoga Poses
- Balance Games
Wii Fit managed to sell over a quarter of a million copies in it’s first week…..which at $70 a pop is a lot of dosh….but is it worth the ticket price?
I should say right off the bat that by no means is this post a review of Wii Fit, It is simply a comment on the idea of having a video game that encourages children to exercise. I love it.
Mum and Dads if you’re going to buy a video game for your child this year that could improve their health…this could be it.
Sleep - How Much Makes You Fat?

There have been a number of studies in the past which have associated short sleep duration with obesity and weight gain in children and young adults.
A recent study was conducted in Spain on a group of people over the age of 60 years.
The sleep duration of the 3576 people was recorded over 2001 - 2003. It has found that those who slept under 5 hours had a higher frequency of obesity (BMI >30) and severe obesity (BMI >35) than those who slept 7 hours.
It was also noticed that those sleeping 8-9 hours had a higher rate of obesity. Read more
